Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2

We’re unsure of what point there is to Dynasty Warriors titles, other than an excuse to literally waste time. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: the ambassadorial summit required to sort this conflict out would be more entertaining than the nonsense hack-and-slash tripe that this series has offered since time immemorial.

There are just too many bizarre features on show than there’s time to criticise. Why does a game set in space take place in two dimensions atop a glowing floor? Why are arbitrary time limits placed on battles, making you start them again if the clock runs down completely? Why are aspects of the story – like it matters – spoiled by characters’ bio texts?

Once again, it’s all a familiar exercise in charging round a battlefield, pressing X; the only difference here is you float about, rather than gallop. There’s a rudimentary combo system in place, but we certainly aren’t talking Virtua Fighter here, and besides, with thousands of identikit mechs to plough through, wouldn’t you rather just get the boredom over with?
