Verdict
Any good? We asked our panel... geddit?
If you could only use one word to describe Comix Zone, misunderstood would have to be it. Released after the Mega Drive had long since been handed down to younger siblings, it was never going to accumulate much of an audience. Wrapping what is actually quite an intelligent, ahead of its time puzzle game inside unforgiving beat ‘em up mechanics didn’t exactly help either.

It’s all very post-modern stuff, really. Struggling artist Sketch Turner is dragged into the panels of his own comic book one stormy night, so the characters he created can take their revenge. To defend himself he’ll make paper aeroplanes out of ripped page segments besides sending his pet rat off to sniff out goodies from behind the paper. Sounds brilliant, but there’s a desperate, desperate need for some slack to be cut that’ll drive you to distraction.
Final Verdict
Tough as nails and brimming with retro cool, Comix Zone is only undermined by its inherent age. 7.4/10
